Leo Steen Wines is a small Healdsburg, Sonoma County producer led by Danish-born winemaker Leo Steen Hansen (founded 2004), devoted to single-vineyard dry Chenin Blanc. The Saini Farms bottling comes from old, dry-farmed Chenin Blanc vines (planted 1981) in Dry Creek Valley, on sandy loam in an old river bottom, and shows that Chenin Blanc here can be bone-dry, sleek and elegant; winemaking emphasizes the fruit with a few months in neutral French oak.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of lemon-verbena, white flower and chamomile lead to a silky-textured palate of quince, green pear and almond paste, with citrus and orchard-fruit character and a hint of viscosity.
