Profile & Story

Villa Tolnay sits at the foot of the extinct volcano Csobanc on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, in Hungary's Badacsony wine region. Swiss vintner Philipp Oser established the estate in 2004 on volcanic soil layered with sediment from the long-vanished Pannonian Sea, terrain that gives the property's wines their signature minerality and lift. The GV is 100% Zoldveltelini (Gruner Veltliner) fermented spontaneously with native yeasts, aged mostly in stainless steel with a small portion resting in oak, and left on its lees for several months before bottling.

Tasting Notes

Pale straw in the glass, with a lifted bouquet of cantaloupe, Golden Delicious apple and freshly cracked white pepper. The palate has a bright, almost effervescent energy, layering stone fruit, floral and light baking-spice notes over crisp, volcanic minerality, closing on ripe peach and orange blossom.
