Profile & Story
Gran Selezione indicates the top 10% of selection from Chianti Classico . One of only a few single vineyard Chianti Classico wines are produced. The wine is made from Sanigovese 95% and Canaiolo 5%. The Vineyard is 4.5 hectares in the east/southeast region, about 1,000 1,200 feet above sea level. The Francois family was granted the land of Greve in Chianti and the title of Marquis by the Holy Roman Emperor in 1749. The family left the area in the 1850's due to political unrest. Upon returning in 1897, the family reclaimed their home and began the winery we know today. The 5th generation of the Francois family are running the winery today.
Tasting Notes
The wine is an intense ruby red, with floral and chocolate aromas and elegant herbal notes. Full body with soft tannins and a long, persistent finish. The wine will age for 10+ years and become softer and less tannic with time showing it's elegance and pedigree.
Pairing Recommendation
The wine pairs well with grilled meats, white truffles, stews and aged cheese.
