Feudo di Santa Tresa lies in Vittoria, in southeastern Sicily, an estate whose vineyards date back to 1697; the Girelli family acquired it in 2002 and reached organic certification in 2009. Around 50 hectares are planted at high density to preserve the typicity of native varieties, close enough to the Mediterranean to benefit from cooling sea breezes, on a terroir of light red sandy loam over limestone. Only natural techniques are used in the vineyard: pheromone traps for pest control in place of heavy spraying, natural fertilisers, and subsurface irrigation to conserve water. Rina Russa is their Frappato, a variety usually bottled young to preserve its freshness.
