In 2005, Familia Torres opened a winery in Labastida, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, drawn to the region's winegrowing potential. Altos Ibericos is sourced predominantly from Rioja Alavesa, the coolest of Rioja's subregions, from vines averaging 60-80 years old -- among the oldest in the appellation -- giving naturally concentrated, higher-acid fruit. The Crianza is 100% Tempranillo, aged 12 months in French and American oak followed by further bottle aging before release.
Tasting Notes
Dark cherry red and aromatic, with raspberry jam and spicy green peppercorn notes plus a toasted-bread nuance. Bright and juicy with refined oak-driven creaminess around vibrant red fruit -- plums and cherries with a hint of tobacco -- medium body and a long, creamy finish of red berries and vanilla.
