Domaine de Pierre is a small Touraine estate run by fourth-generation vigneron Lionel Gosseaume, who came back to the Loire in the early 2000s and in 2007 took over the vines of his neighbour Jean-Claude Maurice, who had tended them since 1960; he has since grown the holding from 8 to 15 hectares across Choussy, Contres, Sassay and Oisly, on limestone giving way to deeper clay, sand and flint, and ferments everything with native yeasts. He works eight distinct plots of Sauvignon Blanc, each picked and fermented separately, on soils that are mostly limestone and sand. A cold, slow fermentation preserves freshness and aromatic purity, and the wine is aged four months on its lees; it is 13.5% alcohol.
