Profile & Story

Domaine du Colombier has been worked by the Bretaudeau family for four generations and has been in Jean-Yves Bretaudeau's hands since 1996; its 35 hectares sit at Tillières, where the Pays Nantais meets Anjou and the Vendée, on a mix of chalk, limestone and clay, and the estate is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale. The Cuvée des Deux Colombes is 100% Melon B at 12% alcohol, cropped at 55 hl/ha, machine-harvested and passed over a sorting table, pneumatically pressed and then aged six months on its lees without racking or transfer, with about 20,000 bottles made. The 2024 was awarded two stars in the Guide Hachette des Vins and a bronze medal at the Concours National de Mâcon 2025.

Tasting Notes

Vinified to show the freshness and the light perlant that give young Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur lie its charm, with the richness, complexity and gras that come from spending the winter on the lees. Best drunk within three years of the harvest, though good vintages will keep and gain weight.

Pairing Recommendation

Young, within the three years following the harvest, it is in perfect harmony with shellfish, especially oysters, and with fish and crustaceans, and it also makes an excellent aperitif. With more age it goes with fish in sauce, poultry and cheese.
