Profile & Story

Jean-Christophe Garnier is a former sommelier, trained alongside the Parce brothers in Banyuls and with Mark Angeli at La Ferme de la Sansonniere, who settled in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay in the Anjou Noir in 2002. He farms old Chenin Blanc vines on schist, gneiss and granite, organically and without any added sulfur since 2016, alongside a little Cabernet Franc, Grolleau, Gamay and Pineau d'Aunis. His Chenin is pressed slowly and gently, then fermented and raised with minimal intervention, which allows a subtle, complexity-building oxidative edge to develop in the glass.

Tasting Notes

This Chenin Blanc shows the mineral drive typical of Garnier's Anjou schist soils, with orchard fruit and a faint waxy, oxidative nuance from its gentle pressing and non-interventionist elevage. Dry and textured, it finishes with bright, saline energy. Restaurant's Notes: 100% Chenin Blanc, only produced in superb vintages. Grapes are from several plots in the western Loire near JC's home. Grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, spontaneously fermented and matured in vat prior to bottling unfined, unfiltered
