La Canellese began in 1890 as a barrel factory in Piedmont; in 1947 Francesco and Rosa Sconfienza created a home vermouth recipe that became locally famous, and Rosa later taught it to her three sons, who turned the family business into a vermouth house. Vermut di Torino Rosso is a wine-based aperitivo infused with Alpine and Roman wormwood, licorice, orange peel, elecampane, allspice and nutmeg, lightly sweetened.
