Ampeleia was founded in 2002 by Elisabetta Foradori, Thomas Widmann and Giovanni Podini at Roccatederighi, in the hills of Alta Maremma in coastal Tuscany, where the estate is farmed biodynamically. Unlitro, first made in 2011 and bottled in a one-litre format, is the estate's lightest and most approachable red: a blend of Alicante Nero, Sangiovese, Mourvèdre and Alicante Bouschet from the Cannucceto vineyard, at 200 to 350 meters on clay, silt and marine-fossil soils. The grapes spend two to three days on their skins, and the wine then rests six months in concrete tanks before bottling.
