Ben Haines is a boutique Victorian winemaker who sources fruit from different vineyards each year, describing his approach as chasing 'magic dirt' across sites and seasons. The With Friends bottling blends Roussanne and Marsanne from twenty-year-old vines at Yangarra Vineyard in Blewitt Springs; three separate ferments make up the final wine — skin-fermented Roussanne, whole-bunch-pressed Roussanne fermented in puncheon with full solids and full malolactic, and Marsanne fermented on skins for six weeks — before blending.
Tasting Notes
An explosive, medium-bodied amber wine with layers of primary and secondary character: the skin-fermented portions bring quince, saffron and honeycomb with a velvety, luscious texture, while the barrel-fermented component adds orchard fruit, a subtle lift of white flowers and crunchy, juicy acidity.
