Profile & Story

Rodgers Creek Vineyard sits high on a ridge in the heart of the Petaluma Gap. It sits at 300 feet above sea level, between Sonoma and Petaluma, in the teeth of the blustery wind and fog of the Petaluma Gap. The vines grow in light, chalky volcanic ash soils in steep inclines. This causes natural vine stress and gives the wine high concentration levels. The vineyard’s climate and steep slopes are well suited for growing exceptional Pinot Noir, offering compelling aromas that evolve in the glass.

Tasting Notes

The 2021 growing season offered optimal conditions in the Sonoma Coast to harvest grapes of exceptional quality. Expressive red fruit and notes of earth and mushroom shine through with intensity, thanks to unique soils and dominance of the Pommard clone. Brief heat waves in August and September ripened the grapes to ideal maturity as the weather stayed dry until major rains arrived October 22, after our grapes were harvested. Yields were lower than average in 2021, with small berries and loose clusters creating wines of increased depth and concentration. Pommard clone dominates the final 2021. We fermented 20% of the grapes whole cluster in 2021, adding aromatic complexity and structure. blend with earthy tones overlaying layers of red fruit flavors. A portion of the grapes were fermented whole cluster, adding aromatic complexity and structural verve

Pairing Recommendation

Pair it with dishes that can stand up to the wine's richer, more complex profile, such as salted meats, roasted pork tenderloin, roasted chicken, or salmon. Other excellent pairings include earthy mushroom risotto or savory pasta dishes with mushrooms, hearty game dishes like duck or lamb, and richer cheeses such as a aged gouda or Manchego. Pork: Roasted pork tenderloin, pork chops, or a pot roast are classic pairings that complement the wine's fruity and earthy notes. Poultry: Roasted chicken or duck are excellent choices, especially if seasoned with herbs or glazed with ingredients like honey and cider. Red Meat: Opt for lighter red meats like a rare steak or lamb. To enhance the pairing, you can add a little red wine to the sauce. Game: A rich duck confit or other game dishes that have a rich, savory flavor will pair well. Salmon: Pinot Noir is a fantastic match for rich, meaty fish like salmon. Mushroom dishes: Risotto or pasta with mushrooms are an excellent pairing, as they complement the earthy notes of the wine. Hearty pasta: Pasta dishes with rich, umami flavors, like lasagna or baked pasta, are a good fit. Roasted Vegetables: Hearty roasted vegetables, especially root vegetables or those with smoky notes, can pair well.
