Profile & Story
The moderate weather in 2023 was ideal for growing Chardonnay in the Sonoma Coast. The grapes developed complex flavors while holding onto their acidity and freshness. Our Sonoma Coast Chardonnay showcases three of the top vineyards in the region – Sangiacomo, Durell, and Gap’s Crown. They combine to create a blend that illustrates the varietal’s exceptional character. Each block was fermented in 30% new French oak barrels and kept separate until final blending. An expressive nose of stone fruit and apple leads to vibrant flavors and lively acidity.
Tasting Notes
2023 brought an end to several years of drought in California, with ample rains during the winter months. Colder temperatures delayed bud break, and the vines woke up later than usual. Moderate spring and summer temperatures followed, allowing the grapes to ripen evenly and develop complex flavors. Harvest began three weeks later than average in the Sonoma Coast, and yields were plentiful. The long, cool vintage allowed our Chardonnay blocks to ripen evenly and maintain their bright, fresh acidity at the time of harvest. Each component was fermented separately in French oak barrels with 30% new oak. They were later blended to create a balanced wine with alluring aromatics and nuanced, multi-dimensional texture This wine possesses an expressive nose of stone fruit and apple leads to vibrant flavors and lively acidity with excellent balance.
