Profile & Story
Cantina Calcagno sits at Passopisciaro on the northern slope of Mount Etna, working vines averaging 70 to 90 years old. Nireddu is 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio, grown on volcanic, sandy, mineral-rich terrain at 650 m and harvested in early October. Fermentation is in temperature-controlled steel, followed by two months in oak barrels plus further steel ageing, then a minimum four months in bottle.
Tasting Notes
Ruby red, with elegant, complex aromatics of fresh fruit. The palate is fresh and complex, of beautiful consistency and tannic structure, with mineral undertones and good length.
Pairing Recommendation
Roasted meats, red meat dishes, game and cheeses. Serve at 16-18 C.
