The growing season itself was idyllic. Mild temperatures, no heat spikes, and steady maritime winds, courtesy of Sonoma County's western edge and 12,000 miles of Pacific Ocean, created a near-perfect environment for the vines. Spring rains filled the soil profile and fueled lush, upright growth, keeping canopies active deep into the season. It was a year vines seemed to truly enjoy. But ease in the vineyard isn't always the winemaker's dream. We know great wines often come from vines under just the right amount of stress. With healthy soils and full profiles, this meant paying close attention to our soil moisture, canopy observations, and weather station data to precisely manage water throughout the season.
