Ca' Donini traces its name to a Milan trattoria at the turn of the 20th century, where proprietor Signore Donini was trusted by regulars to select wines for their private cellars; his heirs later trademarked Ca' Donini, adopting a butterfly as their logo in honor of his butterfly collection. The Pinot Nero is vinified only in steel to preserve the grape's fresh, crisp character.
