Los Loros is the label of Juan Francisco Fariña Pérez, a family winemaker in the Valle de Güímar, a small denominación on the southeastern, volcanic slopes of Tenerife in Spain's Canary Islands. The family has grown grapes there for generations, and the Los Loros project is named for the laurel shrubs (loros) that grow through the upper reaches of the valley. Tenerife's vineyards are farmed on volcanic, mineral-rich soils at high altitude, on old, ungrafted, bush-trained vines — conditions that make the island one of Spain's most distinctive wine regions. Los Loros Tinto is a red made from the island's signature black grape, Listán Negro.
Tasting Notes
Volcanic Tenerife reds made from old-vine Listán Negro are typically bright and mineral, with fresh red fruit, gentle tannins and a distinctive smoky, saline edge from the island's black volcanic soils.
