Profile & Story

Celler Mas Candí was founded in 2005-2006 by Ramon Jané and his wife Mercè Cuscó in Les Gunyoles d'Avinyonet, at the gates of the Massís del Garraf natural park in the Penedès. The Cuscó family has farmed this land since the seventeenth century, and Ramon grew up working the family's Mas Rossell estate before studying viticulture and oenology with internships in Burgundy and Champagne. Today Mas Candí farms 20 organic (CCPAE-certified) hectares across Avinyonet del Penedès and Guardiola de Font-Rubí, championing native varieties, above all Xarel·lo and Sumoll. Desig is a 100% Xarel·lo from vines over fifty years old on clay-limestone soil, farmed organically; the grapes macerate on their skins for 24 hours before static settling, and the wine ages in stainless steel tanks on its lees.

Tasting Notes

Skin-contact Xarel·lo from old Penedès vines like this typically shows a deep golden color with orchard-fruit aromas of pear and apple, a broad, textured palate, and the mineral, saline finish characteristic of the region's clay-limestone soils.

Pairing Recommendation

Pairs well with rich seafood, aged cheeses, or Catalan tapas.
