Profile & Story

Roberto Henríquez is an agronomist and enologist from the Universidad de Concepción whose connection to wine began as a child on his uncle's vineyard in Chile's Itata Valley. After further training in Canada, France and South Africa, he returned home at 29 and settled in Bío-Bío, learning traditional pipeño winemaking from local farmers and dedicating himself to heritage vines aged 100 to 250 years, dry-farmed along the Bío-Bío River and in the Itata Valley. He founded his own winery in 2015 with just 400 bottles, since grown to roughly 60,000 bottles a year and exported to New York, San Francisco, Paris, London and Sydney, among other cities; his wines have been recognized in Punch's essential wines and among Decanter's top orange wines in the world. Rivera del Notro Orange comes from century-old, ungrafted vines on granitic soils on the warmer southern edge of the Bío-Bío River, blending Sémillon, Corinto (Chasselas) and Moscatel. The three varieties are fermented separately with native yeast in concrete, then aged around eleven months split between old barrels and concrete tanks, on the skins, in a style Henríquez describes as one of 'delicate rusticity.'

Tasting Notes

This skin-fermented blend of Sémillon, Chasselas and Muscat typically shows an amber-orange color with floral, spiced aromatics, a textured, dry palate, and the saline minerality typical of Henríquez's granitic Bío-Bío vineyards.

Pairing Recommendation

Pairs well with grilled fish, empanadas, or herb-driven dishes.
