Mandilaria Liastos Dessert
2001, Santorini, Aegean Islands, Greece
Profile & Story
'Liastos' means sun-dried in Greek, a passito-style sweet red wine. 100% Mandilaria, Cyclades PGI. Overripe grapes are sun-dried 7-15 days, then destemmed and pressed; the sweet juice ferments slowly for over 2 months in stainless steel, then matures in oak barrels for several years. ABV 13.5%.
Tasting Notes
Tawny color with aromas of dried fig, plum, and spices. A viscous wine with luscious texture; ripe berry balanced by graceful acidity. Concentrated flavors of raisin, cinnamon, and jammy red fruits. Serve at 8-10C.
Pairing Recommendation
Duck with chestnuts and orange sauce, salty cheeses (Roquefort, kopanisti), and white cream desserts.
