Profile & Story

Mercouri Estate, Western Peloponnese, near Korakochori village, founded 1864 by Theodoros Mercouri, with over 150 years of history in wine and olive oil. Chortais is a blend of 55% Mavrodaphne and 45% Korinthiaki (Corinth Currant), from Mercouri's own coastal vineyards near Ancient Olympia and a selected currant vineyard on the highlands of Vostizza. Grapes are semi-sun-dried, fermented with fermentation stopped by refrigeration, then matured 5-7 years in cask. ABV 15%.

Tasting Notes

Bright red with hints of ageing in color. Nose full of caramel and chocolate with rich, velvety flavor. Harmonic and firmly structured with fine tannins.

Pairing Recommendation

Fruits (dried or not), blue cheese (Roquefort etc.), chocolate cakes, or as a pure dessert wine.
