Profile & Story

Bodegas Alonso has made wine in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz, since 1800, working from a 17th-century former Moorish bodega; the family describes its approach as natural, manual, and unhurried, and calls its Manzanilla the gold of Sanlúcar. Velo Flor is made entirely from Palomino grapes sourced from vineyards across the Jerez Superior zone, aged nine to ten years under a veil of flor in 600-liter American oak butts, and bottled at 15% alcohol.

Tasting Notes

As a Manzanilla aged for years under flor in Sanlúcar's humid coastal cellars, Velo Flor is typical of the style: pale and bone-dry, with a briny, saline edge and aromas of chamomile, green almond, and bread dough.
