Profile & Story

Fattoria di Sammontana has roots in 12th-century Tuscany, when its lands belonged to the Medici family before passing to the canons of Florence's San Lorenzo Church; the estate was purchased in 1867 by the Polish nobleman Michele Dzieduszycki, and today, in its fourth generation, the family farms its 13 hectares in Montelupo Fiorentino, 20 km from Florence, according to organic and biodynamic principles. Described by the estate as the most typical and traditional wine of the property, this Chianti DOCG is a classic young Chianti made from Sangiovese (85%), Canaiolo (10%) and Colorino (5%), hand-harvested from vines averaging 15-35 years old and fermented spontaneously with maceration, frequent pump-overs and punch-downs in glazed cement tanks, then aged in steel and concrete and bottled without filtration.

Tasting Notes

The estate describes this Chianti as fresh and lively, light to medium bodied — a classic young style. Chianti built primarily on Sangiovese typically shows bright red cherry and plum fruit with notes of violet and dried herbs, brisk acidity, and a lightly savory, food-friendly finish.
