Quinta do Ermízio sits in the town of Ronfe outside Guimarães in Portugal's Vinho Verde region; the current estate was established in 1984 and is owned and run by Antonio A. Monteiro, a retired horticulture professor. The vineyards are farmed with largely organic methods on undisturbed granitic soils, vines trained in traditional pergolas to protect the ripening grapes from humidity and harvested by hand. This Vinho Verde is made from Loureiro and Trajadura grown on the estate's 15 hectares at around 500 meters elevation, hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel, with malolactic conversion blocked; cellar work is minimal, with only a small amount of SO2 and CO2 added at bottling.
