Roterfaden was founded in 2014 by Hannes Hoffmann, who grew up on his family's farm in Rosswag and studied viticulture at Geisenheim, and Olympia Samara, a Greek-born winemaker trained in Germany; the couple farms organically and biodynamically in Rosswag, a small Württemberg village on the Enz River known for its dramatic, centuries-old terraced vineyards on shell-limestone soil. "Terraces" is a collaborative bottling from the Vom Boden Vineyard Project: because the steep, labor-intensive terraces are farmed almost entirely by the local cooperative, Roterfaden partners with the co-op — paying premium prices and guaranteeing purchase — to help ferment and blend this wine and support the vineyards' survival. The red is made from Lemberger, Regent and Schwarzriesling.
