Profile & Story
Château d'Yquem, the Premier Cru Supérieur of Sauternes, produces its wine from a blend of roughly 70% Semillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc. In 2013, botrytis settled in by September 15; picking began September 26, with rain alternating with wind helping botrytis develop, successive selective passes finishing with the last Semillon on October 21. Ages roughly 30 months in new French oak. The 2013 carries 140 g/l residual sugar.
Tasting Notes
The 2013 is very botrytised, with richness and candied-fruit flavors; freshness and power comparable to the 2001 vintage, botrytis level reminiscent of 2007. Lightly toasted marshmallow and macadamia-nut aromas lead into juicy mirabelle plum, green fig, glazed pear and peach, with honeysuckle, quinine and chamomile on the finish.
