Profile & Story

Fonseca, established in 1815, belongs in the first rank of Vintage Port houses, wines made by five generations of the Guimaraens family. The firm's three estates — Panascal, Cruzeiro and Santo António — are the heart of Fonseca's character; in 2006 it became the first Port house to offer a wine made entirely from organically produced grapes. This Unfiltered LBV was drawn from a reserve of the best full-bodied red Ports of the 2019 harvest, sourced from Fonseca's own vineyards and other top properties in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior. Aged in large wooden vats and bottled with no fining or filtration. 20% ABV, 105 g/l residual sugar.

Tasting Notes

Wonderfully exuberant, perfumed, full, aromatic nose of luscious ripe black cherry and plum fruit with cedar and spice notes. Rich, rounded, concentrated palate with redcurrant and blackcurrant berry flavours, a hint of Ceylon tea and marked freshness, intense flavourful finish.

Pairing Recommendation

Excellent with fully flavoured cheeses, especially blue cheeses such as Stilton or Roquefort, and delicious with chocolate or berry-fruit desserts.
