Profile & Story
Terre Nere Montalcino is a family-owned, organic boutique winery located in the southeast area of the Montalcino appellation, an area renowned for its ideal exposures and highly expressive Sangiovese. The estate produces 50,000 bottles per year, divided between Brunello di Montalcino, Brunello Riserva and Rosso di Montalcino. The vineyards thrive on a combination of galestro and darker, mineral-rich “terre nere” soils, which provide tension, depth, and a distinctive mineral character. Brunello is made from grapes picked by hand from the highest parts of the vineyards, after manually selecting the best bunches in the vine. Farming is fully certified organic, and our winemaking follows a minimally interventionist philosophy. Fermentations occur spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, enhancing purity and terroir expression. Maturation takes place in large Slavonian oak casks for a long period, respecting the tradition of Montalcino and allowing the Sangiovese to develop elegance, structure, and longevity.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it offers elegant aromas of ripe red cherries, wild berries, followed by notes of tobacco, leather, sweet spices, and a subtle earthy undertone. On the palate, it is slightly austere, with a good, juicy mid-palate, finely present tannins, and a vibrant acidity that will evolve and soften over time, enhancing balance and complexity.
Pairing Recommendation
Brunello di Montalcino pairs beautifully with rich and structured dishes such as braised meats, roasted game, and slow-cooked beef or lamb. It also complements aged cheeses and traditional Italian recipes. For vegetarian pairings, it works well with mushroom-based dishes, truffle pasta, risotto with porcini, grilled eggplant, roasted root vegetables, and dishes featuring legumes, herbs, and savory sauces.
