Profile & Story
Antica Erboristeria Cappelletti was established in 1906 in Trento's historic Piazza Fiera, now based 20km south in Aldeno, Trentino-Alto Adige. Production remains fully in-house under the fourth generation, Luigi and Maddalena Cappelletti. Aperitivo Cappelletti — locally nicknamed "Specialino" — may be the oldest style of classic Italian red bitter still in production. It is wine-based (Pinot Bianco, Garganega, Trebbiano) and colored with natural carmine (cochineal) rather than artificial dyes, giving it a true crimson red. US importer: Haus Alpenz. Bottled at 17% ABV.
Tasting Notes
Less sweet than larger commercial red bitters, with a pleasant dry, drying finish and vinous texture from its wine base. Vibrant and flavorful with bitter undertones; natural carmine color gives a stunning crimson red.
Pairing Recommendation
Classic base for the Spritz (with wine and soda, garnished with orange) or a drier, more balanced Negroni or Americano.
