Vina Casa Silva is a historic family winery in Colchagua, Chile, and in 2006 became the first Chilean producer to plant vineyards in the remote Futrono area of the Los Rios Region, near Lago Ranco and the Andes -- pioneering wines with a designation of origin from this far-southern, Patagonian-edge terroir. The Futrono vineyard sits close to the Andes between two mountains on a slope falling gently toward Lago Ranco; despite the site's southerly, cooler-climate location, the lake's large body of water moderates temperature swings and helps prevent frost damage, while the slope provides good sun exposure and drainage. This 100% Riesling, labeled 'Lago Ranco Riesling,' is the best-adapted, highest-yielding variety for the cool, wet conditions of the Los Rios Region.
