Profile & Story
Cave de Ribeauvillé, founded 1895, claims to be France's oldest wine cooperative, based in Ribeauvillé, Alsace. The Grand Cru Osterberg vineyard (part of the Grand Cru family since 1992, documented since the Middle Ages under the Lords of Ribeaupierre) sits on sunny, southeast-facing slopes above Ribeauvillé with marl-limestone-sandstone soils; total Grand Cru area is 24.6ha at 250-350m elevation. Grapes are hand-harvested, whole-cluster pressed pneumatically, fermented at controlled temperature (21-22°C), aged on fine lees 7-9 months, then cellared a minimum of 3 years before release.
Tasting Notes
Superb aromas of citrus fruit and flintstone (gunflint), a well-balanced mouth with impressive length, enhanced by fine, long acidity; the marl-limestone terroir brings a fabulous mineral balance and powerful delicacy.
