Profile & Story
Bruno Lupin (and his father Francois before him) farms a small, steep plot of Altesse in Frangy, one of only four Savoie villages permitted to append their name to the Roussette de Savoie appellation. Cuvee du Pepe ('Grandpa's cuvee') is Lupin's flagship old-vine bottling: individually staked vines over 60 years old, farmed on molasses (crumbly calcareous soil from ancient mountain erosion) on the fully south-facing Les Aricoques hillside. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts in a concrete egg and never de-acidified, unlike the common regional practice of leaving residual sugar to soften Altesse's naturally high acid.
Tasting Notes
Pale straw in the glass, with aromas of pastry cream, apple, and yellow herbs. Silky flavors of Asian pear, white flowers, and wet chalkboard show real vibrancy, and the wine has remarkable length, with citrus pith and yellow herbs lingering on a wonderfully crisp, bright finish. 12.5% ABV.
