Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery, founded in the Finger Lakes by Dr. Konstantin Frank, the first to successfully plant vinifera in the eastern US, also honors family matriarchs in its single-vineyard Riesling program. Margrit Dry Riesling is named for Margrit Frank, who was born in Hamburg, Germany, immigrated to the US, and became a sought-after seamstress in New York before meeting and marrying Willy Frank (Konstantin's son) in 1956; the couple purchased Chateau Frank in 1982 and moved to the Finger Lakes. This wine is 100% Seneca Estate fruit from a single block in Hector, New York -- the 'Banana Belt,' the warmest mesoclimate in the Finger Lakes -- on deep Honeoye gravelly silt loam soils, yielding riper, more expressive fruit than the cooler Keuka estate.
