Profile & Story
Domaine Josmeyer, in Wintzenheim near Colmar, was founded in 1854 and took its current name in 1963; today sisters Celine and Isabelle Meyer run the fifth-generation estate, farming 28 hectares (including Grand Crus Hengst and Brand) biodynamically since converting in the mid-2000s (organic certified 2004). Chante Pinot is a pet-nat blend of Gewurztraminer, Muscat, and Pinot Blanc from 40-year-old vines on the gravelly, sandy colluvial soils of the Fecht river's alluvial fan. It is fermented naturally and bottled without added sulfites, without fining or filtration, so the wine finishes its fermentation in bottle.
Tasting Notes
A bouquet of dried bergamot and chamomile lifts off the glass, with white-flower and orchard-fruit aromatics; on the palate the wine is a balanced, refreshing petillant naturel with a touch of spice and lively freshness from its natural bottle fermentation. 11.5% ABV.
