Moya Meaker Wines is based on the Habibi Farm estate in the Elgin Valley, South Africa's coolest wine region. The wine is named in tribute to Moya Meaker; winemaker is Jean Smit. The Riesling vineyard was planted in 2006 on a southwest-facing, convex slope at 289m elevation on ancient Bokkeveld shale soils rich in clay, with north-south row orientation aligned to prevailing winds for airflow and disease control. Grapes are handpicked, chilled overnight, destemmed, given skin contact in a sealed press, then a soft champagne-cycle press; juice settles in concrete tanks before a long (near two-month) fermentation in tulip-shaped concrete vessels, followed by seven months lees contact and ten months bottle age before release.
