Weingut Ratzenberger is a family estate in Bacharach, Mittelrhein, with a 300+ year history, run by Jochen Ratzenberger. The Schloss Fürstenberg vineyard, near Rheindiebach, has Roman origins but is the youngest plot farmed by the estate — purchased and re-terraced in 2017, and the subject of a biodiversity research collaboration with Hochschule Geisenheim University. Classified VDP.Erste Lage. Soils have a higher clay content within the slate than the estate's other sites and retain moisture well; the slightly cooler microclimate here lends the wines a fine, spicy character.
