Weingut Josef Spreitzer is a family estate in Oestrich-Winkel in the Rheingau, run by brothers Andreas and Bernd Spreitzer, known for wines spanning vibrant, feinherb classics to structured, terroir-expressive single-vineyard bottlings. '303' is Spreitzer's tribute to the estate's legendary 1920 vintage, when Josef Spreitzer harvested a Trockenbeerenauslese at a then-record 303° Oechsle from a sub-parcel of the Lenchen vineyard called Eiserberg ('iron hill'), so named for its unusually iron-rich, reddish Rotliegend slate and pebble soil -- one of only three red-soil sites in the whole Rheingau (alongside Schloss Johannisberg and Rothenberg). Only since the 2020 vintage have the Spreitzers been permitted to put the historic Eiserberg name back on the label. The wine is gently pressed and predominantly vinified in stainless steel, unbotrytized.
