Weingut Nik Weis - St. Urbans-Hof is a third-generation family estate founded in 1947 by Nicolaus Weis in Leiwen on the Mosel, and named for St. Urban, patron saint of German winemakers. Nik Weis, grandson of the founder, has run the estate since the 1990s, expanding its holdings to roughly 45 hectares along the Mosel and Saar and gaining VDP membership in 2000. The estate farms in harmony with nature and ferments exclusively with indigenous yeasts. This Alte Reben (Old Vines) Riesling is sourced from vines up to 80 years old planted on the estate's steep, blue Devonian slate slopes around Leiwen, Piesport and Trittenheim; the wine plays with residual sweetness, Champagne-dosage style, to find balance between herbal spice and slate minerality. Aged in stainless steel tank and traditional Moselfuder, 11% ABV.
