Tatomer Wines was founded in 2008 by Graham Tatomer in Santa Barbara County, California, dedicated to bone-dry, cool-climate Riesling and Grüner Veltliner. Vandenberg is a blend of multiple pickings from multiple Santa Barbara County sites, primarily "Kick-on Ranch" (Betteravia sandy loam soils), selected for higher botrytis ("noble rot") content, yielding a richer, more fruit-driven style. The 2023 Vandenberg (per importer Skurnik) is a selection of less-extracted lots from Kick-on Ranch including ~15% botrytized fruit; fermented and aged in stainless steel with partial (20%) malolactic fermentation, dry (6g/L RS), aged one year in tank/one year in bottle; 350 cases produced. Practicing organic.
Tasting Notes
Pure, vibrant and immediate on the nose, with stony, citrus and white-flower aromas; clean and high-toned on the palate with a tangy, mouthwatering finish driven by bright acidity. More stone-fruit character and slight honey/pollen botrytis notes than Tatomer's drier bottlings.
