Profile & Story
Weingut Stadt Krems is one of Austria's oldest wineries, founded in 1452 to fund the hospital of Krems and still owned by the municipality today. Fritz Miesbauer has managed the estate since 2003; its 40 hectares of vineyards lie entirely within the city limits of Krems. The estate is Certified Sustainable and a member of the Traditionsweingüter. This Gruner Veltliner comes from mainly loess soils on terraced sites near Krems; it is vinified in stainless steel tanks and bottled after a short rest on its fine lees, a modern style that lets variety, vineyard, and soil show through.
Tasting Notes
A gently mossy nose shows hints of green pear, green apple, lemon, radish, and arugula. The palate is rounded, smooth, and compact, with bright freshness and a yeasty, slightly saline mid-palate, finishing bright, extended, and fresh.
