Profile & Story

Schramsberg Vineyards was founded in 1965 in Calistoga, California, and in 1972 its Blanc de Blancs became internationally known when President Nixon served it at the 'Toast to Peace' banquet in Beijing. Blanc de Blancs was the winery's first release and America's first commercially produced Chardonnay-based brut sparkling wine. It is produced by the methode traditionnelle (second fermentation in bottle) from 100% Chardonnay sourced across the North Coast (Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Marin counties), and ages on its lees for about two years prior to disgorgement.

Pairing Recommendation

The winery suggests it as an aperitif, or alongside fresh oysters and other shellfish, crab cakes, ceviche, grilled sea bass, roast or lemon chicken, and aged Gouda or other hard cheeses.
