Profile & Story

Lava Cap is a Jones family estate on the volcanic soils of Apple Hill in El Dorado County, established in 1981. Their estate Chardonnay comes from six mountain blocks planted between 2,400 and 2,700 feet on decomposed volcanic soil, farmed with a mix of head- and cordon-trained vines across four clones; fermentation splits between stainless steel and barrel, with the barrel lots aged on the lees through malolactic with regular stirring.

Tasting Notes

Rich yet lifted mountain Chardonnay, opening with tropical fruit and Meyer lemon over toasty brioche and a hint of flint, generous but precise on the palate with ample acidity through a long, clean finish.
