Profile & Story
Cantine Benvenuto is a small estate in Francavilla Angitola, in the Vibo Valentia province of Calabria, founded by Giovanni Benvenuto, an agronomist born in Abruzzo who returned to his family's Calabrian land to revive nearly extinct local grape varieties. His signature project has been the recovery of Zibibbo Calabrese: after more than a decade working with regional authorities, Benvenuto secured official recognition for Zibibbo as a Calabrian IGP bottling, becoming the first estate in the region authorized to do so. This wine is made from 100% Zibibbo (Moscato di Alessandria) grown organically on granitic, volcanic soils within the Parco Regionale delle Serre, hand-harvested in small crates. Vinified as a dry white, it was named one of Italy's best white wines by the New York Times.
Tasting Notes
As a dry, still expression of Zibibbo grown on Calabria's volcanic soils, the wine typically shows aromatic notes of orange blossom, ripe stone fruit and citrus, with a textured, dry palate balanced by fresh acidity.
