Profile & Story

Julian Haart began making wine in the Mosel in 2010 after training under two of Germany's most celebrated Riesling producers, Egon Muller and Klaus-Peter Keller. He farms organically in Piesport, on the Mosel, with a small holding that includes old vines in the Grand Cru Goldtropfchen vineyard. Each year, Haart declassifies a single 1,000-liter Fuder of Riesling -- fruit he considers too idiosyncratic for his named-vineyard bottlings -- and sells it to his US importer, Vom Boden, which releases it as the '1000L'. The cuvee originated from a parcel of 25-year-old vines in Goldtropfchen and is legally Trocken (dry), fermented until it stops naturally with no perceptible residual sugar.

Tasting Notes

Vintage to vintage the 1000L is bright and high-toned, with citrus, wet slate and green apple fruit carried by brisk, mouth-watering acidity and real minerality -- impeccably balanced despite its declassified origins.
