Profile & Story
M. Antonio de la Riva is a historic Jerez bodega founded in the mid-19th century by Manuel Antonio de la Riva, built on a solera dating to 1776 and drawing on 53 hectares of vineyard in the prized Pago Macharnudo. Absorbed into larger drinks conglomerates through the 20th century, the brand lay dormant until 2017, when Ramiro Ibanez and Willy Perez -- two of the most respected winemakers in the Sherry Triangle, known for their 'Vino de Pasto' project reviving unfortified, pre-fortification styles of Sherry -- revived the historic label, with a focus on recovering traditional vinifications and historic pagos such as Macharnudo and Balbaina. This bottling is a Manzanilla Fina made from 100% Palomino, biologically aged under a veil of flor in Sanlucar de Barrameda, the coastal town whose maritime climate gives Manzanilla its distinctively saline character.
Tasting Notes
Manzanilla Fina from Sanlucar de Barrameda is characteristically pale straw in color, with a bracing, saline nose shaped by biological aging under flor -- chamomile, sea spray and green almond are typical -- leading to a bone-dry, tangy palate with a crisp, briny finish.
