Profile & Story

Brij is the negociant label of Rajat Parr, alongside his Phelan Farm estate on the San Luis Obispo coast. Parr grew up in Calcutta, came to wine in London in 1993, trained at the Culinary Institute of America and went on to be wine director for the Michael Mina Group and RN74 before turning to production with Sandhi, Domaine de la Cote and Evening Land. Under the Brij label he bottles wines from purchased fruit grown in organic vineyards along the cool SLO coast. The RAG bottling comes from the Rancho Arroyo Grande vineyard, close enough to the Pacific that maritime influence slows ripening and preserves acidity. It is 100% Grenache, fermented with native yeasts and a portion of whole clusters, aged in large neutral oak, unfined and unfiltered with little to no added sulphur; the vineyard is farmed organically and biodynamically.

Tasting Notes

Cool-climate coastal Grenache from California typically shows red cherry, strawberry and dried-herb aromas, a light- to medium-bodied palate with fine, supple tannins, bright acidity and a peppery, savoury finish.
