Father John Wines was started in 2010 by Sonoma County native Nicholas Maloney, on the idea that each wine should be true to its provenance and let each vineyard express its own character. The wines are farmed organically and sold largely to restaurants and mailing-list members. VSOC -- 'Very Special Old Cuvee' -- is crafted from select vineyard sites across Sonoma, California and Mendocino, and is fermented in the traditional Burgundian manner to give a wine the producer describes as delicate yet persistent, highlighting the cool-climate influences of the Pacific.
