Max Kilburg is a twentieth-generation Mosel winemaker who took over his family's historic Geierslay estate after working with Julian Haart, and has since added old-vine parcels in the Grand Cru Ohligsberg and Goldtropfchen sites around his home village of Wintrich, along with micro-parcels in Geierslay and Treppchen vorm Berg. Vertigo is a collaboration between Kilburg and the importer vom Boden: rather than commissioning a blend from a cooperative, Kilburg visits the older growers of Wintrich, tastes their barrels and pays them above the cooperative rate, then blends those lots -- often together with juice from his own Geierslay estate -- into a single Riesling that comes entirely from the village of Wintrich. It is bottled feinherb, between dry and lightly sweet.
