Profile & Story
Niepoort has been a family company in the Douro since 1842, six generations into producing wine, and its Vila Nova de Gaia lodges hold more than 150 years of Port-making knowledge. The house follows a biodynamic path, working with the biodiversity of the region and the plurality of its soils, climates and grape varieties. The 20 Years Old Tawny is blended from wines of an average age of twenty years, matured in old oak casks of 550 litres in the Gaia cellars, the prolonged cask ageing giving the wine its tawny colour. It is bottled at 20% alcohol.
Tasting Notes
A twenty-year-old tawny Port from the Douro typically shows an amber-tawny colour with aromas of dried fig, walnut, caramel and orange peel, a sweet, nutty, medium- to full-bodied palate and a long, gently oxidative finish.
