Profile & Story

Stefano Zoli came from Emilia-Romagna to Matelica, where he made wine for the Condello family from 2008 before buying a plot of Verdicchio planted in 1955 and making his first vintage in 2020. The valley of Matelica sits among the Apennines, with a wide day-to-night temperature swing, ancient chalky soils and clear mountain air; Zoli describes the ambition as making 'the Chablis of Italy'. Three vineyards -- Belrespiro, Cordovani and Vasconi -- are rich in calcareous marl and clay and farmed organically, every task by hand, with only small doses of sulphur and copper. The wine is 100% Verdicchio from parcels at 380, 430 and 470 metres, hand harvested in mid-September, cold-settled, fermented with wild yeasts in steel and concrete at 18-20 C, then aged six months on the lees and a month in bottle. The 2025 is 13.5% alcohol, pH 3.05, total acidity 7.37 g/l.

Tasting Notes

Verdicchio from the Marche typically shows citrus and green almond aromas with a white-flower lift, a dry, medium-bodied palate, brisk acidity and the variety's characteristic faintly bitter almond note on the finish.
